Taxi in Eixample

You come out of a meeting on Carrer d'Aragó at 19:30, it is raining, and your train leaves from Sants at 21:00. Or you arrive with three suitcases at a flat in the Dreta de l'Eixample and want to be dropped at the door. In both cases a taxi in Eixample is quick to find, because the district has one of the densest networks of ranks in the city. We explain below where they are, what the trips people take from here cost, and when it is worth booking ahead.

Taxi in Eixample

Every journey inside Barcelona is charged on the urban tariff of the AMB (the Barcelona metropolitan area): a €2.80 starting charge plus €1.35 per km on weekdays from 8:00 to 20:00 (T-1), or €1.66 per km at night, on Saturdays and on public holidays (T-2), according to the 2026 fares published by the AMB taxi service. Waiting costs €27.75 an hour.

If you are heading to the emergency department or an appointment at Hospital Clínic, the hospital's own website says there are taxi ranks on Carrer Villarroel in front of the main entrance and on Carrer Casanova, across from Plaça del Doctor Ferrer i Cajigal. The Villarroel entrance is open 24 hours a day.

How much does a taxi cost from Eixample?

These are the three trips visitors ask about most. They are our own calculations from the centre of the district with the 2026 AMB tariff. They include the starting charge, the kilometres and the airport or Moll Adossat supplement where it applies. They do not include waiting, traffic, tolls or the €4.60 supplement for a vehicle carrying 5 to 8 passengers.

A taxi that leaves from Sants station carries a €2.55 supplement at the origin, but none when you are dropped there. Journeys that start at the airport have a €21 minimum with all supplements included. For the airport run in detail, read our page on the taxi from Barcelona to the airport.

When is it busiest, and when should you book?

Eixample is full of offices, hotels, clinics and restaurants, so we would expect most demand mid-morning on weekdays, when offices empty and on Friday and Saturday nights. At those moments a rank can be empty. Our advice is to book ahead if you are catching a plane, an early train or a medical appointment.

If you have an early start, remember that T-2 applies from 20:00 to 8:00, so a 7:00 pick-up is charged at the night rate. On the nights of 23 to 24 June, 24 to 25 December and 31 December to 1 January, T-2 adds a further €4.60.

What to tell the taxi service

Four details avoid most problems: the street and building number (or the nearest crossing), how many of you are travelling and with how many suitcases, whether you need a child seat or a wheelchair or are bringing an animal, and whether you will pay in cash or by card.
