A taxi in Ciutat Vella (Old Town) is not one thing: Ciutat Vella is not one place for a taxi. It is four neighbourhoods with different streets, and their ranks reflect that. The split is very uneven: El Born has 4 ranks, against 10 in Barceloneta. That is why it is worth deciding in advance whether you will walk to a rank or arrange a meeting point with the driver.

• Near Plaça de Catalunya or La Rambla: Plaça de Catalunya (numbers 17 and 23) and La Rambla (numbers 44, 72, 91 and 134) have most of the ranks.
• Near the sea: Barceloneta has the Passeig Marítim and Carrer de la Marina ranks, and El Raval has others on Avinguda de les Drassanes and at Moll Barcelona.
• In El Born: you are left with Via Laietana, 36 and Avinguda del Marquès de l'Argentera, 6.

We do not know how many cars wait at each rank, so treat this list as a guide and check your rank on a map before walking with luggage.

How much is a taxi from Ciutat Vella?

These are our own calculations with the AMB urban tariff, from the middle of the district. They exclude waiting, traffic delays and tips, and they are not any company's price.

The AMB tariff page gives a €2.80 flag fall, €1.35 per km on T-1 (weekdays, 8 am to 8 pm) and €1.66 per km on T-2 (weekday evenings and nights, Saturdays and public holidays). It adds €4.60 for the airport and for the Moll Adossat dock, which is why the port, at 2.7 km, costs more than Sants at 4.9 km. The neighbourhoods differ a little: from Barceloneta the airport trip is about €34 on a weekday, and from El Raval about €29, according to the calculation on each guide. Some official addresses help you choose a rank. The Museu Marítim is on Avinguda de les Drassanes and is open every day from 10 am to 7 pm. El Born Centre de Cultura i Memòria is on Plaça Comercial, 12. The cathedral is on Pla de la Seu. The Mercat de la Barceloneta is on Plaça del Poeta Boscà and is open Monday to Saturday, 8 am to 3 pm, according to the council.

How far apart are the neighbourhoods?

From the middle of each neighbourhood, our calculation puts the airport between 16.2 km (El Raval) and 19.7 km (Barceloneta), with the Gothic Quarter at 17.1 km and El Born at 18.3 km. That 3.5 km gap is worth about €5 on tariff T-1. To Sants the range is 4 km (El Raval) to 5.7 km (Barceloneta and El Born), and to the cruise port 2.7 to 3.6 km.
