Taxi in Sants

Asking for a taxi in Sants usually means you are about to catch a train or have just stepped off one. The barrio is home to Barcelona's main railway station, and a taxi Sants Barcelona search often comes from someone with a suitcase and an onward trip to plan. According to Wikipedia's article on Barcelona-Sants station, it has two entrances, one on Plaça dels Països Catalans and one on Plaça Joan Peiró, and it is served by AVE, Avlo, Ouigo and Iryo trains to Madrid as well as Rodalies commuter lines and metro lines 3 and 5.

Behind the station lie the quieter residential streets of Sants, Hostafrancs and Sants-Badal. Of the 30 taxi services we list for the area, 22 are based in Barcelona, 5 in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat and 3 in Esplugues de Llobregat. Barcelona taxis work across the whole city, so any of them can collect you from your street, not only from Sants.

Taxi rank in Sants

The Barcelona City Council publishes 13 official taxi ranks in the area on its Open Data BCN portal (CC BY 4.0, updated weekly). We have grouped them by area:

Area Official ranks
Sants Plaça Joan Peiró 1 (south entrance of the station); Avinguda Madrid 178 and 214; Rambla Badal 154; Carrer Galileu 2; Carrer Equador 8; Passeig Sant Antoni 55
Hostafrancs Carrer Rector Triadó 106; Carrer Mallorca 24; Plaça Espanya 5 and 6

The Plaça Joan Peiró rank is the one beside the south entrance of the station. The open-data list gives no address for the Plaça dels Països Catalans side, so if you leave by the north entrance, look for the taxi signs on the spot or walk round. Avinguda Madrid has two ranks, and Plaça Espanya in Hostafrancs has two more, which helps if you are heading to the fairground area or to Montjuïc.

How much is a taxi from Sants?

Inside Barcelona and the surrounding AMB (the metropolitan area that sets the urban fare), taxis run on a fixed urban tariff. According to the AMB taxi tariff page, 2026 rates are a €2.80 flag drop, €1.35 per km from 8:00 to 20:00 on weekdays (T-1), €1.66 per km on weekday evenings, Saturdays and public holidays (T-2), and €27.75 per hour of waiting. Three supplements matter in Sants:

  • Starting at Sants station: €2.55, charged only when the station is where the trip begins.
  • Airport or Moll Adossat (cruise terminals): €4.60, whether it is the start or the end of the trip.
  • 5 to 8 passengers: €4.60.

These are our own calculations from the centre of the barrio, not from the station door, with no traffic and no waiting:

Destination Distance Time Weekdays 8:00-20:00 Evenings, Saturdays, holidays
Barcelona airport (El Prat) 13.7 km about 20 min about €26 about €30
Cruise port (Moll Adossat) 5 km about 11 min about €14 about €16
Sants station (within the barrio) 1.9 km about 5 min about €5 about €6

The airport and cruise port figures already include the €4.60 supplement. For the whole airport journey see our Barcelona airport taxi page and the airport to cruise port page; for an explanation of each charge, read our Barcelona taxi fares guide.

Our shortlist for a taxi in Sants

  • Best rating on the list: Taxi Barcelona City, based in Barcelona, 5.0 stars from 51 Google reviews. We have little website data for it, so confirm conditions when you book.
  • Most reviewed chauffeur service: Royal Falcon Limo, 4.8 stars from 541 reviews and open 24 hours on Google. It is a chauffeur car service rather than a rank taxi.
  • Groups and station pick-ups: Taxi Barcelona 7 Plazas, from L'Hospitalet, 4.7 stars from 2,175 reviews. Its website names Sants among its destinations and mentions vehicles for 6 to 9 passengers, an adapted taxi, pets and card payment.
  • Several languages: Your Taxi Barcelona, 5.0 stars from 26 reviews, with a website in seven languages that also names Sants as a destination.
  • People carriers with fixed prices: QuickTaxiBCN, from Esplugues de Llobregat, 5.0 stars from 10 reviews, with a 24-hour service and fixed prices according to its website.

We explain how we score the list on how we rank.

What happens when you start a trip at the station

Allow a few minutes to walk from the platform to the exit. Pick the entrance nearest to where you are going: the south side opens onto Plaça Joan Peiró, where the open-data list shows a rank, and the north side onto Plaça dels Països Catalans.

The meter starts at the €2.80 flag drop, and because the station is the starting point you pay the €2.55 supplement on top. Add €4.60 if you are 5 to 8 people. The AMB's €21 minimum applies only to trips that start at the airport, not to trips from the station. Whether T-1 or T-2 applies depends on the time you set off.

If you travel between Sants and the airport often, compare it with the train or bus on their operators' own websites. This page only covers taxis.

When to book a taxi in Sants

Early departures and late arrivals can mean a queue at the rank. If your train leaves early or you have several suitcases, book ahead by phone, an app or our booking form, which sends your request to up to three companies.

Before you confirm, check:

  1. How many people and how many bags you have (5 to 8 passengers add a supplement).
  2. Where you want to be collected: arrivals board, south entrance or north entrance.
  3. How you will pay. Only 4 of the 30 companies mention card payment on their websites.
  4. Whether you want a fixed price, which 6 of them offer according to their websites.

Of the 30 companies, 9 advertise 7 or 8 seat vehicles and 10 state a 24-hour service. For a bigger vehicle see our large taxi page; 4 companies mention adapted taxis on their websites, and 1 says it takes pets, so ask on the phone.

Taxis to the neighbouring barrios

From Sants most visitors head to the Eixample, the port or the airport. For the Eixample see taxi Eixample; for Gràcia, taxi Gràcia; and if you are going to the sea front, taxi Barceloneta.
