Chauffeur service in Barcelona

A chauffeur service is a car with a professional driver that you book in advance, usually for a price agreed before the trip. The IMET, the Barcelona metropolitan taxi authority, describes VTC authorisations on its VTC authorisations page as covering rental vehicles with a driver of up to 9 seats. VTC is the Spanish term for a licensed private-hire car with driver, the licence Uber and Cabify drivers use.

In our data, the services Google files under limousine or chauffeur tend to rate highest. Limusinas Experience has a 5.0 from 141 reviews and is listed as open every day from 9 am to 11 pm. Royal Falcon Limo has 4.8 from 541 reviews and, on its website, says it has operated since 2019 and offers fixed prices.

Car with driver in Barcelona

A car with driver suits trips where time, comfort or luggage matter more than the lowest meter fare. Typical cases are an airport pickup with a name board, a wedding or event with several vehicles, a business day with stops, or a longer trip such as Barcelona to Girona or to Montserrat.

How is a private driver different from a taxi?

A taxi follows an official tariff and can be hailed; a private driver is booked ahead at a price the company sets. This table sets out what we could confirm from the IMET:

The taxi figures are the 2026 values on the IMET fares page. T-1 applies on weekdays from 8:00 to 20:00 and T-2 at other times.

Who oversees private drivers in Barcelona?

For urban VTC authorisations, the IMET says it is the competent body. Its VTC page states that the IMET grants the authorisations for services with origin and destination in the Barcelona metropolitan area, and that all incidents about an urban VTC authorisation must be reported to it, even if the Generalitat's transport service is also involved.

What should you ask before booking a private driver?

Ask for a written total price and what it includes. Our checklist:

  1. Price: does it cover tolls, waiting time after landing, child seats and extra stops?

  3. Wheelchair access: four websites mention adapted vehicles. Ask what type of ramp or lift it is.
  4. Payment: four companies mention card payment on their website, so ask how and when you pay.

  6. Hours: 15 companies state 24-hour service on their website or in Google, but a late-night pickup should still be booked in advance.

Which trips are worth a private driver?

Airport and cruise transfers are the most common. For an airport arrival, look at our Barcelona airport taxi page. For cruise passengers, the IMET fixes the airport to Moll Adossat taxi fare at €46 with every supplement included, according to its fares page; see airport to cruise port.

Excursions to the coast are another use, for example to Sitges. Several companies name Sitges, Girona, Tarragona, PortAventura and Andorra on their websites, which is a sign they price those trips regularly. Ask for the same quote in writing from two or three companies.
