If you have just landed at El Prat with three suitcases and want to know what the ride to your hotel will cost, or you live outside the city and need to be in Barcelona early, Barcelona taxi fares are the first thing worth understanding. They are public and regulated: the meter does not negotiate. What changes is the time of day, the distance, traffic and whether the trip leaves the metropolitan area.
Below we explain how the price is built, which supplements exist and what some typical journeys cost. If you already know where you are going, you can request a taxi with one form.
Barcelona taxi fares: urban tariffs T-1 and T-2
The urban taxi in the Barcelona metropolitan area has two tariffs with the same €2.80 starting charge and a different price per kilometre. They are published by the IMET, the AMB body that regulates taxis, at taxi.amb.cat. "AMB" is the Barcelona metropolitan area, and it is the AMB rate that applies to a trip inside it.
| Tariff |
When it applies |
Starting charge |
Per km |
Waiting per hour |
| T-1 daytime |
Monday to Friday, 8:00 to 20:00 |
€2.80 |
€1.35 |
€27.75 |
| T-2 night and holidays |
Weekday evenings and nights, Saturdays, public holidays |
€2.80 |
€1.66 |
€27.75 |
The meter switches tariff by itself. Waiting is charged when the car is stopped or crawling, so a traffic jam makes the trip dearer even if you are not moving. If you pick a route with tolls, the return toll is yours to pay.
What supplements do Barcelona taxis add?
Supplements are added on top of the meter and are the same in T-1 and T-2. These are the 2026 figures from the same AMB page:
| Item |
Amount |
| Airport (pickup or drop-off) |
€4.60 |
| Moll Adossat cruise terminals (pickup or drop-off) |
€4.60 |
| Fira Barcelona Gran Via, pickup only |
€3.30 |
| Estació de Sants station, pickup only |
€2.55 |
| Vehicle carrying 5 to 8 passengers |
€4.60 |
| Special nights (23-24 June, 24-25 December, 31 December-1 January) |
€4.60 |
There are also two minimums. A trip starting at the airport costs at least €21, all supplements included. A trip booked by radio or app has a minimum of €8. The AMB page does not mention any luggage supplement.
This matters if you are five or more: a large taxi in Barcelona carries the €4.60 supplement, but it is often cheaper than two normal taxis.
What are the T-3 and T-4 fares?
T-3 is a fixed price booked through an app, and T-4 is a fixed price between the airport and the Moll Adossat. Both are on the AMB fares page.
- T-3: it can only be booked through apps of validated mediation companies. The price is worked out before the trip, includes the journey to your pickup point and five minutes of waiting, and the taximeter reads zero during the ride. The minimum amount is €8. The AMB page does not publish the per-kilometre and per-minute rates behind T-3, so we do not quote them. To choose an app, see our guide to Uber and other taxi apps in Barcelona.
- T-4: between the airport and the Moll Adossat the price is fixed at €46, with every supplement included. It is the figure to know if you arrive on a cruise; the route is covered on airport to cruise port by taxi.
How much is a taxi in Barcelona by distance?
With the official rates, a 10 km urban ride costs about €16 by day and about €19 at night, before waiting and supplements. This is our own calculation: €2.80 plus the kilometres at the unit price. The real meter can run higher in traffic.
| Distance |
T-1 (weekday daytime) |
T-2 (night, Saturday, holiday) |
| 3 km |
€6.85 |
€7.78 |
| 5 km |
€9.55 |
€11.10 |
| 10 km |
€16.30 |
€19.40 |
| 20 km |
€29.80 |
€36.00 |
Add, where they apply, the airport, station or 5-8 passenger supplement. These amounts exclude waiting and tolls.
A worked example: two travellers with five suitcases leave the airport on a Tuesday at 15:00 for a hotel 12 km away. On T-1 the sum is €2.80 starting charge, €16.20 for the kilometres (12 times 1.35) and €4.60 for the airport: €23.60 before any waiting. If five people shared a 5-8 seat vehicle, another €4.60 would be added.
A trip of about 16 km between El Prat and the centre comes to roughly €29 to €34 depending on the tariff, airport supplement included. That is the range this site computes for the Barcelona airport taxi route: €2.80, plus 16.1 km at €1.35 or €1.66, plus €4.60.
Some companies in our directory, such as TaxiGoBarcelona and Xact Transfer, say on their websites that they offer fixed prices. Ask them for the amount: we do not publish company prices. A fixed quote is worth asking for in writing, with the pickup time, the number of passengers and suitcases, and whether tolls and waiting are included, so that the figure you are given matches the figure you pay.
Which fare applies outside the metropolitan area?
When the start or the end of the trip is outside the metropolitan area, the Generalitat de Catalunya's intercity tariff applies. The AMB page itself says intercity trips follow the Generalitat's fares. For 2026 the figures published by the Girona mobility service are:
| Item |
Weekdays 8:00 to 20:00 |
Nights, weekends and holidays |
| Price per km |
€0.82 |
€0.89 |
| Waiting per hour |
€22.47 |
€24.32 |
| Minimum |
€7.25 |
€7.90 |
Supplements also exist: €2.25 for a telephone booking, €4.60 for the airport, €4.60 for more than four passengers and €4.60 on the special nights. Luggage within the regulated space is not charged.
The intercity kilometre is cheaper, but the trip is usually long. The intercity order, published by STAC, says the service is hired as the whole car on a closed circuit back to the starting point by the shortest route unless agreed otherwise, and that return tolls are paid by the customer. Check with the company whether that rule still applies in 2026 and how it is applied.
How much do the most requested trips from Barcelona cost?
These are the figures this site calculates for the most searched routes, using official rates and no waiting. Each route has its own page with details and the companies that do it.
The ranges run from the daytime to the night rate. They exclude waiting, unusual traffic and tolls, and intercity trips may carry the €4.60 supplement for more than four passengers.
Why does the meter show more (or less) than expected?
Usually for three reasons: traffic, time of day and supplements. Ten kilometres on the Ronda de Dalt at 8:30 on a Monday is not the same trip as the same ten kilometres at midnight on a Saturday.
- Traffic and waiting: waiting is charged at €27.75 an hour in the metropolitan area, so five minutes stopped is about €2.31.
- Time band: crossing 20:00 or 8:00 during the ride changes the tariff the meter applies.
- Supplements: the airport, Moll Adossat or 5-8 passenger supplement is added to what the meter shows.
- Tolls: if the driver suggests a motorway and you accept, the toll is yours. You can ask for a route without tolls.
For a return trip or one with stops, the meter keeps running while the car waits. If you only need a short pickup, for instance at Sants station, ask the driver to wait for a stated time and tell you the likely cost. Sants adds €2.55 only if the ride starts there, while the Moll Adossat adds €4.60 each way, a detail that surprises many cruise passengers.
Is it cheaper to take Uber or a taxi in Barcelona?
We cannot give a fixed answer: the taxi follows the official rate, while a private-hire (VTC) car sets its price in the app and it moves with demand. VTC means a licensed private car with driver, the licence Uber and Cabify drivers use. Compare the price each app shows for your own route and hour before you confirm. Our guide to Uber and taxi apps in Barcelona explains what each option does.
How can you avoid surprises when ordering a taxi?
Ask for the approximate price before you set off and confirm what it includes. These are the questions worth asking at booking:
- Is it an urban trip (metered) or intercity?
- Is there a fixed price? Does it include tolls, waiting and supplements?
- How many passengers and suitcases are we? From five people you need a 7 or 8 seat vehicle.
- How is it paid? Ask in advance whether the company takes cards.
For long trips outside the metropolitan area, ask whether the company works on the intercity rate or an agreed fixed price, and what happens with the taxi's return and the tolls. It is the doubt that causes most misunderstandings, so settle it in writing when you book. Keep the confirmation message or email, and compare it with the meter or the receipt at the end of the ride; if the two differ, the written terms are your reference when you talk to the company. For specific journeys, see the route pages such as taxi Barcelona to Sitges or taxi Barcelona to Girona.
To compare companies, start with those that have the most reviews. In Barcelona, Horta Taxi 24 has 157 Google reviews averaging 5 stars, and Taxi Ride Barcelona says on its website that it has vehicles for 4 to 9 passengers. How we order the lists is explained in how we rank. Once the journey is clear, send your request and we will pass it to up to three companies.
Official fares are normally updated at the start of the year. The ones here are those in force in October 2026 according to the IMET and the 2026 intercity list. If you read this later, check taxi.amb.cat before relying on them; the review date of this page is the one at the top.
