Taxi from Barcelona to Montserrat
You want to see the monastery in half a day, you are four people, and the train timetable does not suit you. A taxi from Barcelona to Montserrat is then a reasonable choice, because the fare is for the car and the driver takes you to the door. Montserrat is outside the Barcelona metropolitan area (AMB), so the AMB tariff page points to the rates set by the Generalitat of Catalonia instead of its own urban meter.
That is why the price looks high for 60 km. The rest of this page explains where the figure comes from, what it leaves out and how to book without surprises.
Barcelona to Montserrat taxi fare
The meter fare we calculate is about €98 on weekdays between 8:00 and 20:00 and about €107 at night, at weekends and on holidays. The 2026 intercity tariff published by Girona council is €0.82 per kilometre by day and €0.89 at night, with a minimum fare of €7.25 by day and €7.90 at night.

Why is the fare worked out on 120 km?
Because intercity fares in Catalonia are charged in a closed circuit. The STAC explains that routes are counted back to the starting point by the shortest way unless the parties expressly agree otherwise, and that the service is contracted for the whole vehicle. Our 60 km figure is therefore billed as the taxi's round trip.
Tolls work in the same way. According to the STAC, the passenger pays the toll of the road used, including the return of the driver to the origin. If a company quotes a closed price, ask whether that already covers both legs.
How do you get to Montserrat without a taxi?
There are two public options, and they are worth knowing so that you can compare. The Montserrat visitor site lists a coach from Viriat Street, next to Sants station, leaving at 9:15 and returning at 17:00 from October to May or 18:00 from June to September, at €6.25 one way, on its by road page. The other is the R5 train from Plaça Espanya towards Manresa to Monistrol de Montserrat and then the rack railway, as described in the Turistren guide.
A taxi is not cheaper than either. It is the choice when you travel as a group, with luggage, with limited mobility, or when you want your own timetable.
Where does the taxi leave you, and what about parking?
Ask the company to take you to the monastery area directly. The monastery car parks are attended and run by the Montserrat Mountain Trust, with limited capacity, and their rates are set each year by the Catalan Parliament. A taxi avoids that problem for you, but it still needs a place to wait, so tell the company how long you plan to stay.
If you drive instead, Monistrol-Vila station has a free car park with room for 1,000 cars and 70 coaches, according to the same guide, and you continue by rack railway.
Can a large taxi take six or eight people?
Yes. With more than four passengers the tariff adds €4.60, which is small compared with splitting the car among a group. According to their own websites, 26 of the 30 services in our list offer 7 or 8 seat vehicles, and 10 mention wheelchair-adapted taxis. Compare the large taxi in Barcelona options if you travel with a big group, or the private driver in Barcelona services if you prefer a chauffeur for the whole day.
If you arrive at El Prat first, see taxi from the airport to the city for the pick-up points. For the other day trips from Barcelona, compare taxi Barcelona to Sitges and taxi Barcelona to Girona.
What should you ask before you book?
Four questions settle most disputes. Is the price the meter or a fixed total? Does it include both tolls? How much is waiting time per hour, and how long will the driver wait? Is the 5 to 8 passenger supplement included?
Also give the exact pick-up address, the date, the number of people and bags, and a mobile number. Pets and child seats should be requested in advance, because we cannot confirm which services supply them. For how the fares work in general, read our guide to Barcelona taxi fares.
