Taxi from Barcelona to Calella
You spend a weekend in Calella and head back to Barcelona with your suitcase, or you leave Barcelona for a hotel on the Maresme coast. In both cases a taxi from Barcelona to Calella is the most direct option. Calella is outside the metropolitan area, so the AMB points to the Generalitat's tariffs for journeys that leave its area.
The meter starts when you get in, and the price depends on the kilometres and the time of day, not on how many of you travel.

Why is the return trip billed?
The STAC explains that intercity services are hired by the whole car and counted as a closed circuit back to the starting point by the shortest route, unless both sides agree otherwise. The user also pays any toll, including the driver's return.
That is why a ride of under 56 km is billed as about 112 km. If you want another arrangement, agree it before you leave.
What is not included in the fare?
- Tolls: paid by the passenger, including the driver's return.
- Waiting: the same tariff lists €22.47 an hour by day and €24.32 at night.
- Groups: €4.60 for more than four passengers.
- Airport pick-up: a €4.60 supplement. Our figure starts in Barcelona city; for El Prat see Barcelona Airport to Calella.
If a company offers a fixed price, it may differ from the meter estimate. Ask what it includes, in writing. 14 of the 30 services say on their websites that they offer fixed prices.
How long does it take, and when should you leave?
About 45 minutes without traffic. Early-morning departures from Barcelona and beach traffic in summer can lengthen it, so for a train, ferry or booking that cannot slip, leave 30 minutes earlier than the calculation suggests. Give a pick-up time and a contact number when you book.
Is the taxi better than public transport?
The choice comes down to how many people travel and how much they carry. A couple with two suitcases pays the same meter fare as four friends with one bag each, so the taxi gets better value as the group grows. Before you decide, divide the estimate by the number of travellers and compare it with the tickets you would otherwise buy.
The taxi wins with a group, luggage, awkward hours or a door-to-door need. For a light traveller with time, compare the trains on the official site of Rodalies de Catalunya, and check the last services before planning a night return.
21 of the 30 companies say on their websites that they run 7 or 8 seat vehicles and 20 state 24-hour service. Large groups should read large taxi Barcelona. If you arrive by plane, see Barcelona Airport to Calella; for the coast further north, compare Barcelona to Lloret de Mar.
What to say when you book
Calella is a busy resort in summer, with many hotels on narrow streets close to the beach. Give the hotel name and street number, and ask the driver where he can stop. Saturdays in July and August are the busiest days, so reserve earlier than you think you need to, and for the return trip give a pick-up time that leaves room for traffic.
- Pick-up and drop-off addresses, with street numbers.
- Number of passengers and suitcases, so the right vehicle is sent.
- Child seats or a wheelchair, if needed.
- How you will pay: only 6 of the 30 services mention card payment on their websites.
- The price and what it includes: tolls, waiting and group supplement.
