Taxi from Barcelona Airport to Calella
You land at El Prat in the afternoon and your hotel is in Calella, on the Maresme coast. A taxi from Barcelona Airport to Calella leaves the metropolitan area, so it is billed on an intercity basis. The AMB says the Generalitat's tariffs apply when a journey starts or ends outside its area.
That is why the price looks high compared with an airport ride into the city. The taxi covers 69.8 km, and the tariff counts the way back too.

Why does the fare count the way back?
Under Order TES/226/2018, which the STAC explains, intercity journeys are closed circuits: they are counted back to the starting point by the shortest route unless both sides agree otherwise. The passenger also pays any toll used, including the driver's return.
The practical effect is that the price is for the car and the job, not for a seat. Split between four people, it often compares well with other ways of reaching the coast with luggage.
Where do I find a taxi at El Prat?
Aena's page on taxis at Barcelona Airport lists ranks on floor 0 of Terminal 1 and at the arrivals areas of T2A, T2B and T2C, most with a rank for reservations and one without. It says the only official taxi in Barcelona is black and yellow.
For a trip of nearly an hour, we would book ahead and give the company your terminal and flight number, so the driver follows the real landing time. Our general page on the Barcelona airport taxi covers the ranks in more detail.
How long does it take, and what are the alternatives?
About 56 minutes without traffic. If you travel alone and without much luggage, the regional train may suit you; check times and fares on Rodalies de Catalunya. The taxi makes sense for groups, late arrivals and heavy bags.
If you start from the city centre instead of the airport, the figures are lower and have no airport supplement: see Barcelona to Calella by taxi. For the Costa Brava further north, compare Barcelona Airport to Lloret de Mar.
What to ask when you book
Calella is a busy resort in summer, with many hotels on narrow streets close to the beach. When you book, give the hotel name and street number and ask the driver where he can stop. Arrivals on Saturdays in July and August are the busiest, so reserve earlier than you think you need to.
Check four things in writing: the total and whether it includes tolls both ways, the waiting rule if your flight is late, the vehicle size for your luggage, and the payment method. 21 of the 30 services say on their websites that they run 7 or 8 seat vehicles, and 14 offer fixed prices, which may differ from the meter estimate above.
